Refills and repurposing your jars

How our refill service works

  • Place your refill order through our website.
  • Drop off your cleaned and undamaged The Bohemian Co. jars to our Joondanna location. We will send you the address once you choose this service.
  • Write down a few different scent options for your refills in the note section before check out or leave a note with your jars. This allows for quicker turnaround of your order.
  • Feel free to try a different scent than you’ve had before as we relabel and re-twine your jar.
  • We’ll email you when ready. Please allow 1-2 weeks.
  • Pick up your refilled candles from our Joondanna location or we can post to you if you choose (shipping costs apply).

How to clean your used candle jar

  • With approx. 6-10mm of wax remaining (remember never dry burn which is burning with no wax left), soak your The Bohemian Co. jars in boiling soapy water.  
  • This will dislodge the wax and the wax will rise to the top. Discard the wax into the bin (don’t allow to go down the drain as it’ll clog the pipes!) and drain the water.
  • Once you’ve removed all of the wax, don’t forget to take out the wick holder. If its stuck down, just slip a sharp knife underneath and pop it out. A little boiling water will usually help or a heat gun if it doesn’t want to come out easily.
  • Repeat process if needed and then wash jar using warm soapy water.
  • The paint from the inside of our white vessels may come off if the jar is scrubbed or scratched. It’s ok if this occurs a bit during the cleaning process, it can still be used and look good!

Please note - candle jars are made of glass or aluminium and can weaken after prolonged periods of heat. We suggest you do not refill your used candle jars more than once. We are unable to refill damaged jars due to safety reasons. 

Repurposing your jars 

Your favourite candle from The Bohemian Co. is nearing the end, the beautifully fragranced wax has vapourised your home over evenings of cosy enjoyment, and you’re left with just the empty vessel. There are plenty of great ways to reuse your old scented candle jars. Once you’ve followed our cleaning instructions, you’ll be able to recycle the candle jars/tins. Here are a few of our favourite ideas:

  • Old scented candle jars are the perfect size to become your latest leafy addition’s new home. Think succulents or water plants!
  • Keep your beauty space organised and tidy. Our larger jars are perfect for make-up brushes, eyeliners and pencils, while small candle jars and tins make great places to keep cotton wool pads or those rogue bobby pins.
  • Candles and flowers = happy! Use old candle jars for some fresh blooms to freshen the home while waiting on your next candle order.
  • Fill with dog treats. Humphrey’s idea of course!
