The product

Each candle is individually hand poured and made in small batches with love and care. We pour into top quality glassware + use lead free cotton wicks. We use 100% natural soy wax in The Bohemian Co. candle range, which is a natural and renewable product. This means they emit far less soot than regular paraffin candles and release no toxins into the air. As soy candles burn slower and longer than regular candles, their scent is gradually released over time, filling the room with a strong and lasting aroma. Soy wax candles are also a more environmentally friendly choice that is healthier for people and our pets at home! Humphrey approves!

How does adding candles to your daily routine promote peace and calm? Let us ‘enlighten’ you! Lighting a candle has grown in importance as technology and our world has become increasingly distracting and complex. With many of us staring at screens all day, we are consumed by the notorious blue light. Along with the magnitude of overwhelming information, it leaves us feeling depleted, impacting our sleep and anxiety levels. Candles have been proven to soothe us, with the low light that comes from a candle captured by our sight and sent straight to the brain. Thanks to our associations with candlelight as calming, the body begins to relax, soothing the soul and helping us decompress! 

Lighting a candle can also evoke memories, encourage daily rituals just for you, mark celebrations, style your home and strengthen your awareness. Scented candles are perfect for bed time rituals (hello lavender and sandalwood), a mood shifter when you need an energy boost (think citrusy scents such as lorange blossom or avocado + mint) or to help create your own ambient retreat.

Candle care 

Tired of sooty glass + uneven wax? Here are some tips to get the most out of your candles from The Bohemian Co. 

  • First burn. When lighting for the first time, burn the candle until the wax melts across the entire surface. This may take up to two hours but will create an even burn for the duration of the candle's 'life'. This prevents tunnelling and will make your candle last longer.
  • Trim your wick before each burn. 6mm is perfect. If your wick is too long it will create black smoke, wick mushrooming and the candle will burn too quickly. Before relighting your candle always trim the mushroom or little ball off the top of the wick to keep your candle burning gently (don’t worry these are common with cotton wicks). 
  • Do not ‘dry burn’, meaning never burn your candle with less than 10mm of wax in the jar. The glass may overheat, potentially break and damage surfaces. Always burn candles on a surface that is heat proof.
  • Do not leave candles unattended. Never ever! Keep lit candles in a safe place away from children and pets.
  • Keep candles out of direct sunlight and away from heat sources.
  • Store candles in a cool dry place and don’t leave candles in a hot car! This will keep the wax from melting as well as discolouration.
  • Burn your candles in a draft free area clear of curtains, books, clothing, vents and ceiling fans etc. Windy spaces can decrease burn time, cause uneven burning, smoking and decrease scent throw.

Please remember, candles involve a naked flame so please always treat them with caution.
